You’re considering dental implants, but it’s a major investment, and you have lots of questions about the process.
The first step is an initial consultation with Dr. Baller at her Aurora, CO dental office. At this appointment, she examines your mouth, teeth, and jaws to determine if you’re a good implant candidate.
One factor determining whether you are a good candidate is how strong the jawbone is where we want to place the implant. If too much bone has been lost after tooth loss, Dr. Baller might recommend bone grafting to increase your chance of success with implant placement.
The success of an implant relies on healthy gums and sufficient bone in your jaw to support it. If this is the case, Dr. Baller may recommend a procedure called bone grafting.
Dental Implant Placement Procedure
Ensuring Your Comfort
First, we will use a strong local anesthetic to numb the area where we need to place the implant to ensure that you won’t feel any pain. If you are worried about feeling anxious, we can help you relax with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral sedation.
Placing Your Dental Implant
Dr. Baller places the implant in the precise position in the jaw that she determined when she planned treatment. After placement, bone and tissue bond to the biocompatible titanium implant called osseointegration.
Restoring Appearance and Function
The average healing time for a dental implant is between four and eight months. Dr. Baller will monitor you periodically to check on the healing progress. Once she’s satisfied that the implant has healed completely, the next step is to attach your custom dental crown.
Dr. Baller does this by adding an abutment piece to the implant and then attaching the crown to the abutment. The all-porcelain crown completes your smile and restores chewing function, and is designed to blend in with surrounding teeth seamlessly.
