Tooth Extraction
We are passionate about healthy smiles and providing exceptional dentistry to help you keep your teeth for a lifetime. Sometimes, however, we see a patient with a tooth that, for whatever reason, is so badly damaged that it is unsalvageable.
Tooth extraction is not a procedure we take lightly at Baller Dental & Orthodontics at Southlands. If Dr. Holly Baller recommends it, you can be confident that she has exhausted all other treatment options and methods to save the tooth.
If you need a tooth extraction in Aurora, you won’t find a gentler or more compassionate dentist than Dr. Baller. Because of her warm and friendly nature, our patients don’t hesitate to turn to her for treatment, knowing that they will always be met with compassionate, non-judgmental care.
Why Dr. Baller Recommends Extraction
There are several reasons why our dentist might recommend removing a tooth as the best option to maintain your long-term oral health.
- Severe tooth decay has left a tooth damaged beyond repair.
- A dental abscess or infection has progressed beyond what a root canal can treat.
- Advanced gum disease has caused bone loss and loosened one or more teeth.
All of the above are related to poor oral health, but there are also instances where Dr. Baller recommends extraction for the best outcomes when:
- Preparing for full denture therapy
- Planning orthodontic treatment to ensure the best results
- Planning dental implant placement
If our Aurora dentist recommends extraction, she will explain exactly why and how removing the tooth will benefit your long-term oral health.
Ensuring Your Comfort during Tooth Extraction
At Baller Dental & Orthodontics at Southlands, we make sure that every detail of your experience with us supports your comfort and well-being. Dr. Baller uses the most powerful local anesthetics to gently numb your mouth before your procedure. She further ensures a calm and comfortable procedure for you by offering nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation that uses prescription medication to help you relax.
After your procedure, we will send you home with instructions for caring for yourself and the extraction site to ensure a smooth recovery and no complications. Since she cares about your well-being and how you are doing, Dr. Baller will call you the evening of your procedure to check on you.
Interested in Tooth Replacement?
Because Dr. Baller focuses on solutions, she encourages her patients to change their focus from tooth loss to tooth replacement. Even before your extraction, she would be happy to describe solutions and the beautiful results she can achieve with dental implants, dentures, and bridges.
If you are getting dental implants, it may be possible to place them and your new teeth on the same day as your tooth extraction. If you would like implants but have been told there isn’t sufficient bone in your jaw, Dr. Baller may recommend a bone grafting procedure at the same time she removes the tooth.

Her focus on doing things right the first time makes her stand out from other doctors
I suffer from extreme anxiety when visiting the dentist (even for just a cleaning). It wasn’t until I found Dr. Holly Baller that I was able to get into a regular cadence of going to the dentist again. Her chairside manner is impeccable, and her focus on doing things right the first time makes her stand out from other doctors.

Frequently Asked Questions
Of course! Many of our Aurora patients experience dental anxiety, which is completely normal and nothing at all to be embarrassed about. We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed in our care, and sedation dentistry helps smooth the rough spots and provides a sense of calm and well-being.
Safe, Gentle Nitrous Oxide
Also called “laughing gas” for the pleasant feelings it produces, nitrous oxide is short-term sedation with no lingering after-effects to make you feel drowsy. Because it’s a gas, you inhale it through a small nasal mask, and it delivers feelings of calm and well-being. You will feel a little fuzzy, but you will remain fully conscious throughout and can communicate with us as needed.
Nitrous oxide is safe and gentle, so it's perfect for children who need help relaxing.
Oral Sedation for Deeper Anxiety
Oral sedation is perfect for patients who have more intense anxiety than nitrous oxide alone cannot address. Dr. Baller describes a sedative that you should take about an hour before your appointment. By the time you arrive (with the help of a designated driver), you will feel very calm and relaxed and remain so throughout your appointment.
Unlike the short-term effects of nitrous, oral sedation stays in your system for several hours. Plan on a driver to transport you safely from our office and go home and rest.
