Does Dental Implant Surgery Hurt?

Dental implants have been used for decades, and the art and science of placing them have been perfected so that the procedure is comfortable and pain-free. There are many reasons why getting a dental implant may be easier and more efficient than you might believe.

Let’s start by looking at how we prepare for dental implant surgery at our Aurora, CO, dental office.

Planning Implant Placement

Successful outcomes rely on placing the implant precisely in the optimal depth and location in the jaw. This can only be achieved through meticulous planning using sophisticated 3-D cone beam CT scans. The information obtained with these scans allows our implant dentist to plan placement with a high degree of accuracy and precision for an efficient procedure.

Preparing for Dental Implant Surgery

The next step is ensuring you’re comfortable and at ease before we begin the procedure. Our amazing, caring dental team will offer you a neck pillow and blanket, so you feel comfortable. We also offer noise-canceling headphones to enjoy your favorite TV programming during your procedure.

If you experience dental anxiety, we offer light sedation with nitrous oxide. If you prefer something stronger, Dr. Baller can prescribe a calming medication for you to take an hour before your appointment.

Placing Your Dental Implant

First, we numb the treatment area with a strong, long-lasting local anesthetic. You might experience some pressure during implant surgery, but you won’t feel any pain.

Our implant dentist carefully creates a space in the jaw and places the implant post. After placement, she attaches a metal cap to protect the post while it heals over the next several months.

It’s really as straightforward as that—thanks to precise planning and the skill and expertise of Dr. Baller, who cares deeply about you and your comfort.
